EDUCATION INTERN

Center for Book Arts seeks an Education Intern for summer and/or fall 2022.

Under the supervision of the Educational Programs Manager, the intern will:

• Monitor front-facing email inbox, forward inquiries and respond as necessary
• Draft weekly email blast promoting upcoming workshops; monitor online engagement and prioritize workshops/events for promotion.
• Create 4–5 social media posts per week promoting upcoming workshops and classes; develop targeted marketing strategies for our audiences.
• Monitor enrollment in workshops and assist in updating and tracking enrollment and revenue numbers.

Skills and qualification requirements:

• Currently enrolled or recently graduated undergraduate in Education, Arts Education, Book Arts, or related discipline. Internships for course credit can be discussed.
• Interest and/or experience in arts nonprofit administration, art education, and book arts.
• Familiarity with bookbinding or printmaking processes a plus; desire to learn these a plus
• Ability to work independently
• Knowledge/experience of working with project management platforms, marketing systems including Buffer and/or Constant Contact, and marketing via social media and email. Desire to learn these skills/gain experience in this area a plus.

Time requirements:

• One to two days per week
• Summer interns will start in June and end in late August/early September
• Fall interns will start in late August and end in November.
• Please note that this internship will take place in-person at Center for Book Arts.

About:

Center for Book Arts seeks an Education Intern for summer and/or fall 2022. The Education Intern at Center for Book Arts will support the duties and responsibilities of the Education department. The desired time commitment for this position is 16-20 hours a week. Benefits include studio time and participation in workshops, as well as engagement with a wide network and community of book artists, educators, and art professionals.

LIBRARY INTERN

Center for Book Arts seeks a Library Intern for summer and/or fall 2022.

Under the supervision of the Librarian, the intern will:

• Assist with cataloging artists’ books, zines, and book arts-related catalogs, books, and serials.
• Rehouse materials
• Page and reshelve materials as needed
• Do a special project as suits the interests of the Intern – this can involve library space design, reference/research assistance, digital preservation, physical preservation, subject-specific cataloging, or other projects

Skills and qualification requirements:

• Currently enrolled or recently graduated student of library and information science. As this internship is unpaid, it may be a good fit for MLIS candidates in need of an internship for course credit.
• Interest in arts nonprofit archives’ and/or artist’s books/book arts
• Ability to identify print processes and/or bookbinding techniques a plus; desire to learn these a plus
• Ability to work independently
• Knowledge/experience of working with CollectiveAccess or other CMS software, or desire to learn CollectiveAccess

Time requirements:

• One to two days per week
• 100-120 hours of work overall, depending on the Intern’s availability.
• Summer interns will start in early June and end in late August/early September
• Fall interns will start in late August and end in November.

About:

Center for Book Arts seeks a currently enrolled or recently graduated student of library and information science, archival studies, history, art history, American studies, or comparable field for our Summer 2022 Archives Internship. Under the supervision of CBA’s Librarian, Gillian Lee, the Intern will participate in a grant-funded project to catalog archival materials at CBA in order to expand access to the collection.

ABOUT

Center for Book Arts’ seeks the support of interns in all areas of the organization including administration, development, membership, exhibitions, literary programs, marketing, and collections. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. The exact hours and duration of each internship vary depending on the student’s schedule. Candidates should at least be able to commit one full business day per week throughout the course of the internship. CBA does not have the funding to provide a stipend for interns, but we highly encourage participants to seek funding from their college or university as well as class credit. Interns are also welcome to take classes and utilize our studio space for the duration of their internship.

  • Administrative Internships

Interns may develop their business and management abilities as they assist in the day-to-day operation of the organization.

  • Development Internships

Interns may assist in researching grants, drafting proposals and reports, as well as developing membership drives and coordinating special fundraising events, including our annual Benefit.

  • Membership Internships

Interns will assist in developing and evolving our membership program, as well as growing our constituent base, along with related administrative tasks.

  • Programs Internships

Interns may assist with administrative and logistical tasks on a number of CBA’s public programs, such as exhibitions, public programs, and literary events. Interns will assist with event planning and reporting, data entry, corresponding with artists, and other organizational tasks related to the upcoming programs. Programs interns will also have the opportunity to assist with curatorial and publication projects.

  • Literary Programs Internships

Interns may assist in all aspects of literary program planning and coordination of the Broadside Reading Series, Annual Chapbook Competition, and the Creative Publishing Seminar. Interns will assist in coordinating readings, communicating with writers, the documentation and archiving of past literary programs. 

  • Library/Collections Internships

Interns may be involved in cataloging The Center’s art collections and resource library, which consists of out-of-print periodicals, books, limited edition artists’ books, and technical books on the subjects of bookmaking and printing. Interns will assist with selecting works and drafting copy for social media posts.

  • Marketing & Design Internships

Interns may assist in the research of the potential outlets and community partnerships for the advancement of the Center’s programs as well as providing insight toward marketing plans and strategy in collaboration with the Marketing Manager. Interns will also update press and media lists as needed, and aid in the dissemination of communications materials on various social media outlets. Interns interested and trained in graphic design are welcome and highly encouraged to apply their design sense to the development of the Center’s brand.

  • Digital Media & Video Internships

Interns will primarily assist in helping to edit and build out our growing Online Class Archive utilizing the Center’s digital media style guide. Additionally, interns may assist in technical support for our online programming and live streams as well as preparing the recorded event for YouTube upload. Must be well-versed in Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro.
